Workspace Explorer File Tree

Martin DebusPosted on LinkedIn

I am a big fan of coding in the Databricks UI, but this one thing is missing.

First, I think we all know that the world seems to be divided between those who run Databricks using the UI and those who use VS Code or a similar IDE. I am leaning more into the Databricks UI direction because of the seamless integration into the whole platform. It is so convenient to have everything in one place (Coding, SQL, Catalog, Jobs, etc.).

But the one thing I like especially about VS Code is the file tree explorer. When code gets complex and is scattered throughout a well modularized python package, jumping from one file to another in the editor in Databricks UI is a pain.

So, just as I am wondering how nice that would be, the tree view showed up in the Databricks Free Edition. I assume this will soon be rolled out into all Workspaces. I have several Azure Workspaces that do not have this UI feature yet.
